12 died, as a truck, bus collide in Ebonyi.


12 out of 14 passengers in a white shuttle bus with registration number EBJ 350 XA has been confirmed killed following a fatal accident between the bus and a truck.

The Sector Commander Federal Road Safety Corps in Ebonyi State Uche Chukwurah who noted that the accident occurred at the Ezzillo community along the Abakaliki-Enugu highway on Tuesday, told Journalists that Ten of the victims were women while the other two were male.

According to Chukwurah, the victims charted a 14-seater EBSU bus from Abakaliki to Enugu State to attend a burial before they met their untimely death.

She further disclosed that the two persons that survived the accident sustained a high degree of injuries.

“The accident involved a shuttle bus and truck.14 passengers were involved. 12 died: 10 females and 2 males. The 2 injured are receiving treatment at the hospital,” the sector commander noted.

Ebonyi lawmakers threaten speaker with impeachment over gov’s loan request.

Crisis appears to be brewing at the Ebonyi State House of Assembly following the demand by members to impeach the Speaker, Francis Nwifuru, if he refuses to resign. Nwifuru, who is also the governor-elect, has been the Speaker since 2015. A document, titled, ‘Ebonyi Speaker under fire to resign or risk impeachment,’ signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Assembly, Mr Egede Sylvester, and obtained by our correspondent, said the members demanded the immediate resignation of Nwifuru and his deputy, Kingsley Ikoro, or they should face impeachment.
